If you’re like me and often find yourself running around like a crazy person during the week, you’re likely looking for something simple, nourishing, energizing, and – yes – chocolatey to munch on while you’re on the move. Look no further than these raw oil-free gluten-free 4-Ingredient Maca Cacao Nib Energy balls!
This perfect little snack has the most heavenly texture and a dangerously rich and exotic chocolatey taste. I created this recipe on my first go-round by literally throwing all my favorite snack foods into a food processor and hitting go. The result was sheer magic! These energy balls are a fantastic source of natural, unrefined sugars from the dates and natural energy boosters from the maca that give you a sustained lift of energy throughout your day.
The caco nibs, besides adding this awesome crunch, pack an incredible amount of antioxidants and pure chocolatey flavor. Combined with the alkalinity of almonds, there is no better way to treat yourself on busy day. You’ll notice that this recipe does not use coconut oil. I’m trying out some lighter snacks that omit the ingredient and found that this recipe held together very well without the oil. Feel free to add some in if you want a more decadent dessert.
Medjool dates are definitely my preferred option for the base as they’re wonderfully caramel-ey and rich. They are, however, also quite expensive. Deglet dates which are much cheaper are just a bit smaller and rougher. They’ll require a little more time in your food processor, but will nonetheless still give you a jawdroppingly delicious energy ball. Enjoy!

- 1 ¼ cup almonds
- 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons cacao nibs
- 2 tablespoons maca powder
- 1 cup pitted medjool dates or deglet dates
- Honestly this recipe is so simple it’s downright ridiculous. All you need is a food processor and a plate! Start by blending the nuts and cacao nibs in the food processor. Set 1/3 cup of that mixture aside for coating your energy balls in the last step. Next, add your dates and maca powder. Blend until you see a moisture release and your mixture begins to clump together. The last step is to simply form the mixture into golf ball-sized balls in your hand, then roll them onto the remaining almond and cacao nib mixture to coat. Refrigerate and enjoy! Store these in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
